“Mom”-ese Proverbs

China is said to have more proverbs than any other culture on Earth. Chinese proverbs are time-honored adages of wisdom, remaining relevant to all walks of life. They are simplified to keep things in perspective. Recently, I posted my favorite one on Instagram, and a few Moms responded back about just wanting a nap. It gave me a laugh, and thus, inspired the following.


Chinese Proverbs:
 Mom Version


CHINESE:
“A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song.”

MOMESE:
“A toddler does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has to constantly make a noise.”

CHINESE:
“A filthy mouth will not utter decent language.”

MOMESE:
“A filthy mouth will get washed out with soap. And get grounded.”

CHINESE:
“A bit of fragrance clings to the hand that gives flowers.”

MOMESE:
“A bit of snot clings to the hand that wipes noses.”

CHINESE:
“Water surges only to overflow.”

MOMESE:
“Coffee surges only to overflow.”

CHINESE:
“Quiet thoughts mend the body.”

MOMESE:
“Naptime mends everybody.”

CHINESE:
“A fall into a ditch makes you wiser.”

MOMESE:
“A shower and some sleep make you wiser.”

CHINESE:
“Easier to rule a nation than a child.”

MOMESE:
“Hahahahahahahahaha”

CHINESE:
“To have principles, first have courage.”

MOMESE:
“To have playtime, first have coffee.”

CHINESE:
“Things at the worst will mend.”

MOMESE:
“Tantrums at the worst will end.”

CHINESE:
“Nothing can be accomplished without norms or standards.”

MOMESE:
“Nothing can be accomplished without sippy cup or blankie.”

CHINESE:
“Take things as they come.”

MOMESE:
“Yeah, no kidding.”

CHINESE:
“A single spark can start a fire.”

MOMESE:
“A wrong food in a wrong section of the plate can start a tantrum.”

CHINESE:
“A good fame is better than a good face.”

MOMESE:
“A good cup of coffee gives you a good face.”

CHINESE:
“Actions speak louder than words.”

MOMESE:
“Kids speak louder than words.”

CHINESE:
“Everything is ready except the east wind.”

MOMESE:
“Everything is ready except when trying to get everyone out into the car to leave.”

CHINESE:
“The beginning of wisdom is to call things by their correct names.”

MOMESE:
“The beginning of discipline is to call your kids by their full names.”

CHINESE:
“A man without a smiling face must not open shop.”

MOMESE:
“A mom without a smiling face must still open shop.”

CHINESE:
“A man can do no more than he can.”

MOMESE:
“A mom does more than she can all the time.”

CHINESE:
“Happiness is the best cosmetic.”

MOMESE:
“Concealor is the best cosmetic………………………” #darkcircles

CHINESE:
“If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help someone else.”

MOMESE:
“A nap. I just want the nap.”
